Most wooden toy brands start with one good product. A stacking toy. A puzzle. A set of blocks. It sells. Then the founder faces a harder question: what comes next? A collection is not a pile of products. It is a calendar. It is a price ladder. It is a set of age gates. Get it right, and your line sells in January as well as December. Get it wrong, and you have a warehouse full of one-season wonders. At OKEYKIDS, the children’s toy brand of Wenzhou Times Arts & Crafts Co., Ltd., we have spent 24 years making wooden toys for Europe and North America. Here is how we think about collection planning with our partners.

Start with age gates, not product types.

A common mistake is to plan by category. “We need more puzzles. We need more blocks.” That is a product list, not a collection. A better starting point is age. Ages 1–2 need large parts, rounded edges, and sensory simplicity. Ages 3–4 need sorting, matching, threading, and pretend play. Ages 5+ need building, planning, and collaborative play. When you map your collection by age, you naturally cover developmental stages. Parents with children at different ages can buy from you more than once. That is how a collection becomes a customer relationship.

Build a price ladder.

A collection needs an entry point, a core, and a premium tier. The entry point brings new customers in. The core pays the bills. The premium tier builds brand perception and supports gift sales. Wooden toys lend themselves to this structure because material and complexity scale naturally. A small stacking ring set sits at the entry. A full block collection sits in the core. A large heirloom building set sits at the top. Every OKEYKIDS product is tested to EN71 and ASTM F963 standards. We use water-based paints and child-safe finishes. Edges are rounded. Small parts are checked and rechecked. Batch records are kept. If a toy does not pass, it does not ship.

Plan for the gift calendar.

Wooden toys are strong gift products. That is an advantage, but only if you plan for it. Birthdays happen year-round. Holidays cluster. Baby showers peak in spring and fall. A collection that only peaks in December is leaving money on the table. Think about gift sets, bundled packaging, and price points that work for grandparents, aunts, and family friends. A wooden toy that costs slightly more but feels substantial is an easier gift decision than a plastic toy at the same price. The material helps the gift story.

Use color and packaging to create line logic.

A collection should look like a family, not a random assortment. Shared color palettes. Consistent packaging. Recognizable shapes. This is where muted, natural tones help. They create visual coherence across ages and price points. A parent can buy one item and recognize the brand on the shelf six months later. For OEM/ODM buyers, we can adjust materials, finishes, age grading, packaging, and branding to match your market. Because design, sampling, production, and quality control work under one roof, changes move quickly and line consistency stays controlled.

Leave room for reorders.

A collection is not finished when it launches. It is finished when it reorders. Track which items sell through, which get returned, and which get reordered. A wooden toy that sells once is a product. A wooden toy that sells again is a line. Build your supplier relationship around consistency, not just price. The best collection is the one your customer buys twice.

If you are building a wooden toy collection, start with age, then price, then calendar. Explore OKEYKIDS at https://www.okeykids.com/ or request our catalog. We would be glad to show you how we work.
