Every year, the same conversation happens. A buyer emails in September asking for a Christmas delivery. The answer is always the same: too late. Not because we are unhelpful, but because wooden toys are not plastic. They cannot be molded overnight. Wood must be cut, sanded, finished, painted, dried, assembled, tested, packed, and shipped. Each step takes time. Each step has a queue. At OKEYKIDS, the children’s toy brand of Wenzhou Times Arts & Crafts Co., Ltd., we have spent 24 years making wooden toys for Europe and North America. We have learned that the best Christmas orders are placed in June—sometimes earlier.

Why wooden toys need a longer runway.
Plastic toys are injection-molded. A machine can produce thousands of identical pieces per hour. Wooden toys are different. Wood must be selected, dried, cut, and sanded. Edges are rounded by hand or machine. Surfaces are finished with water-based paints and child-safe finishes. Each coat must dry. Joints are assembled and checked. Small parts are tested. Batch records are kept. If a toy does not pass, it does not ship. Every OKEYKIDS product is tested to EN71 and ASTM F963 standards. This is not a fast process. It is a careful one. And careful processes need to be scheduled.
The production calendar is not a straight line.
Most buyers imagine production as a simple sequence: order, make, ship. In reality, it is a queue. Factories run multiple clients, multiple products, and multiple deadlines. Capacity is finite. Sampling takes time. Material sourcing takes time. Testing takes time. Packaging production takes time. A June order can be scheduled comfortably. A September order competes with everyone else who waited. The result is either a rushed job or a missed deadline. Neither is good for your brand.

What early ordering actually buys you.
It buys you options. Early orders get better material selection. They get more sampling iterations if something needs adjustment. They get scheduled QC time, not squeezed QC time. They get packing slots that are not rushed. And they get shipping space that is not booked at the last minute. Early ordering does not just protect the deadline. It protects the quality. For European and American buyers, Q4 is not just a sales season. It is a reputation season. A late shipment does not just cost money. It costs shelf space, customer trust, and next year's reorder.
What we recommend.
Start sampling in Q1. Approve materials and finishes by Q2. Place production orders by early Q3 at the latest. Book shipping by mid-Q3. This gives you buffer for testing, packaging approval, and unexpected delays. It also gives your supplier time to do the job properly. For OEM/ODM buyers, we can adjust materials, finishes, age grading, packaging, and branding to match your market. Because design, sampling, production, and quality control work under one roof, our scheduling is transparent. You know where your order sits. You know what comes next.

If you are planning a wooden toy order for the holiday season, start earlier than you think. Explore OKEYKIDS at https://www.okeykids.com/ or request our catalog. We would be glad to show you how we work—and when to start.
