Walk into any toy trade show and you will hear them. The same five sentences, repeated by smart buyers who have simply never questioned them. At OKEYKIDS, the children’s toy brand of Wenzhou Times Arts & Crafts Co., Ltd., we have spent 24 years making wooden toys for Europe and North America. Here is what we have learned about the myths—and the truth behind them.

Myth 1: Wooden toys are too expensive.
Truth: They cost more per unit. They cost less per year. A plastic toy that breaks in three months is expensive. A wooden toy that survives three children is not. When you divide cost by years of use, the gap narrows. When you add parent trust, gift appeal, and resale value, wood often wins. Smart buyers do not look at the invoice. They look at the reorder rate.
Myth 2: Wooden toys are too simple. Kids get bored.
Truth: Simple is not boring. Simple is open-ended. A flashing plastic toy tells a child what to do. A wooden block does not. It becomes a car, a house, a phone, a cake. It grows with the child instead of limiting them. Many OKEYKIDS products follow Montessori-inspired principles: natural textures, muted colors, simple forms. This is why they stay in rotation long after electronic toys are abandoned.

Myth 3: Wooden toys are not safe because of paint and splinters.
Truth: Poorly made wooden toys can be unsafe. Well-made ones are held to higher standards than most plastic toys. Every OKEYKIDS product is tested to EN71 and ASTM F963 standards. We use water-based paints and child-safe finishes. Edges are rounded. Small parts are checked and rechecked. Batch records are kept. If a toy does not pass, it does not ship. The problem is not wood. The problem is cutting corners.
Myth 4: Wooden toys are only for babies.
Truth: Wooden toys serve every age. Toddlers stack and mouth. Preschoolers sort, thread, and pretend. Older children build, plan, and play strategy games. The material stays the same. The challenge grows. That is why wooden toys have a longer shelf life in both a playroom and a retail store.

Myth 5: Any factory can make wooden toys.
Truth: Any factory can cut wood. Not every factory can make a toy that survives a toddler, passes EN71 and ASTM testing, arrives shelf-ready, and gets reordered. It takes integrated production. It takes design, sampling, production, and quality control under one roof. It takes 24 years of export experience. That is not a commodity. That is a partner.
For brands and retailers, these myths cost money. They lead to wrong sourcing decisions, high return rates, and weak shelf performance. For OEM/ODM buyers, we can adjust materials, finishes, age grading, packaging, and branding to match your market. Because our process is integrated, you get fewer middlemen and clearer answers.
If you are sourcing wooden toys, question the myths. Then choose a partner who proves the truth. Explore OKEYKIDS at //www.okeykids.com/ or request our catalog. We would be glad to show you how we work.
